Vespers of 1640
Green Mountain Project 2012
A Grand Festive Vespers in Venice, c. 1640 is the Green Mountain Project’s newest exploration of 17th century Italian sacred music. Our 2010 and 2011 performances of Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers inspired us to perform more of the composer’s music for the evening office of Vespers.
We ‘ve fashioned a Marian Vespers, based on the 1610 model, featuring psalms and motets from later Monteverdi sacred works (we use the 1610 setting of the hymn, Ave maris stella) along with music by the great Venetian composer Giovanni Gabrieli and the Milanese composer-nun, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani.
Our Vespers, c. 1640 recreates all the splendor of this golden age of sacred music.

LIVE CD of Green Mountain’s Performance in 2010
We still have copies of the Green Mountain Project’s inaugural performance of Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 on January 3, 2010 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of publication.
Please consider purchasing our double CD set and download the PDF of our commemorative program book. Every bit helps us continue to bring the project back each January, and it’s a fantastic recording made by 6 time Grammy Award winning recording engineer, Marc Aubort of Elite Recordings.
